Welcome to MenelikEducation Resources Centre

 

MenelikEducation will open its doors in April 2008.  The centre will enable young people in the 13-25 age group and adults, to learn skills to achieve their potential, setup small-scale, self-sustaining enterprises locally and to raise awareness of public affairs.  The great majority of our beneficiaries will be female students. The centre will have 25 staff, all local, and several foreign assistants/volunteers from various parts of the world.  Activities will  include:

 

  • Arts & Design courses
  • Language courses
  • Performing Arts
  • Health & Beauty 
  • Personal Development
  • Practical skills & Training       
  • Information technology

 

 It has AIDS prevention and remedial classes for secondary school pupils and a public library. The centre will work with schools across Kinshasa and beyond and will be accessible to the community and several thousand young people who will all benefit from its services free of charge. MenelikEducation will set up a committee of volunteers who will regularly go out to the DR Congo to monitor the work at first hand, to assess ongoing needs and to ensure that all your money is properly spent.

 

Our immediate target

 

·        Public library to be open 14 hours a day

  • Remedial classes to improve secondary school exam  performance Adult literacy classes
  • Drama group, broadcasting on Local Radio
  • Young musicians group
  • Tailoring, dressmaking and carpentry workshops
  • Play facilities for children
  • Establishment of links with local and foreign schools/colleges/universities
  • Establishment of partnerships with charity organisations based in the DR Congo.

 

 Future Projects

 

1.    Establishment of a community radio station, which will broadcast educational programmes.

2.    Construction of a guest house

3.    Human rights and good governance education using theatre and drama.
